Street Resurfacing Project Gets Underway

Copied from http://www.melbourneflorida.org

The annual resurfacing program in Melbourne is beginning this week in the northern portion of the city, and is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Nearly six miles of Melbourne roadways are to be improved. The City Council approved $823,120 in work divided among several companies after the Engineering Department staff identified that approach as the most cost-effective.

The initial work in the project is to affect Hammock Drive; King Richard Drive from Wellington Road to Hammock Drive; Wellington Road from King Richard Road to Pembroke Road; Saint Swithin Lane from Plompton Drive to Sherwood Boulevard; Tortoise Cove; Timber Way from Riverside Drive to Victoria Avenue; Fatzler Road from Osage Avenue to Clark Avenue; and Clarke Avenue from Fatzler Road to Montgomery Road.

Additional streets to be resurfaced include Dartmouth Drive between Fairway Drive and Vassar Street, Timber Way between Riverside Drive and Victoria Avenue, and West Drive between Dow Road and Ellis Road.  Lipscomb Street is to be resurfaced between Florida Avenue and Tarpon Way.

Fee Avenue is to be resurfaced between U.S. 1 and Pine Street as part of the project.  The portion of Fee Avenue between Pine Street and Babcock Street is to be improved later, during a drainage improvement project.

Streets that are to be milled to reduce the level of the pavement, then resurfaced, also include Lipscomb Street between University Boulevard and Florida Avenue, Paradise Boulevard between Riverside Drive and State Road A1A, and Pineapple Avenue between Eau Gallie Boulevard and U.S. 1.

The work is to occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.  Motorists should expect periodic lane closures and detours.  Persons living in the area are asked to avoid parking on the streets during daylight hours.  The streets are to be opened for use as soon as the asphalt placement is completed.

Additional information is available from the Engineering Department at 608-7300.  Traffic advisories are available at melbourneflorida.org/news, and traffic announcements are made via Twitter at MelbourneFL.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting – Sunday, Dec. 12

If you have lost a child, grandchild or sibling, no matter what the cause or at what age the child died, and you need support, The Compassionate Friends is a wonderful resource. Our annual Candle Lighting Service will be held on Sunday, December 12, in conjunction with the TCF Worldwide Candle Lighting held on the second Sunday in December each year. This event has no religious affiliation and is not centered around any of the winter holidays; it is just a time to share our children and light candles in their memory.
